Be Strong teamed up with LG to honor, thank and give back to six families who truly personify the six sustainable happiness skills. Through their generosity, gratitude, passion for human connection, mindfulness, positive outlook and lives of purpose, these families bring value and love to everyone they encounter. Together, with LG, we are honored to recognize and gift them each with an entire home appliance upgrade. More than mere machines, these new appliances will help to simplify daily life and sustain and increase the ways in which these selfless families serve their local communities.
Anitra
Mom
“There’s always someone in need, and I will be the one to find them.”
Generosity (noun)
The quality or fact of being liberal in giving.
Do you remember that one house on your block that kept you fed? The door was always open, you were always welcome, and so were your friends. This kind of house could never be a home without one ingredient, the thing that kept everyone coming back, or for some of us, from ever wanting to go home.
Anitra Woods lives in this house. Anitra loves in this house, cooks in this house, and raises her family in this house. Whenever she leaves it, she takes all of that out into the world with her. Anitra takes full responsibility for her local community. She steps up in a way that makes lasting change, and this is most evident in the lives of her children, foster children, nieces and nephews. All of them choose a craft that focuses on serving others, all while following closely in Anitra’s footsteps, wherever she guides them. “We will catch the bus, catch the train – no matter what we have to do – we will get out into our community,” Anitra shared.
She has instilled a passion for expressing generosity, while overcoming her own obstacles and hardships, within her family. This family never wavers. Even after the loss of her spouse and the Covid-19 pandemic, her mind is always on others. With Anitra, one act of kindness always leads to another. As holidays approach, the entire family comes together in the kitchen, cooking the biggest meals to serve their community for donations. Every dollar raised helps cover the cost of ingredients for Thanksgiving feasts they make and deliver to families in need.
Decking out the very heart of their home, their kitchen, the place where they have mastered teamwork and learned the importance of giving back, will no doubt ignite new pathways to places where they are most needed. These appliances are a very real reflection of the goodness they do and, without a doubt, will continue to do. They will have the power to remind Anitra of her very real purpose on this earth. She will expand the number of self-built sheds on her property, to store her ever growing collection of “do you know someone who could use this” items, which will now include her very own secondhand kitchen appliances. “There’s always someone in need, and I will be the one to find them,” Anitra said with a humble smile.
