Be Strong & LG breaking the news to Kelly & her family that they are being gifted with a new appliance suite this Thanksgiving season.

Be Strong teamed up with LG to honor, thank and give back to six families who truly personify the six sustainable happiness skills. Through their generosity, gratitude, passion for human connection, mindfulness, positive outlook and lives of purpose, these families bring value and love to everyone they encounter. Together, with LG, we are honored to recognize and gift them each with an entire home appliance upgrade. More than mere machines, these new appliances will help to simplify daily life and sustain and increase the ways in which these selfless families serve their local communities.

Gratitude (noun)

The state of being grateful, appreciative.

There is no other family unit quite like Kelly’s. And unit is the perfect way to describe them. They are all the working parts of one very well-orchestrated, powerful whole, and mom Kelly is their fearless leader. She is their conductor. She’d humbly point to each of her children instead and exclaim, “no way that’s me; here’s why it’s them.” Her aptitude to appreciate them for who they are and what they offer this world is exactly why they make the choice every day to show up for her and each other in so many ways.

You might think that when her youngest daughter, Olivia, was diagnosed with a one-in-a-million disease, that all of this would have fallen apart; that the foundation may crumble, or at least begin to crack. But this structure didn’t even shake. Kelly held it all together. But she wouldn’t be Kelly if she didn’t make sure we talk about the kiddos first. They selflessly give up trick or treating saying, “if Olivia can’t go, then no one goes.” Her siblings recognize Olivia’s painful days and do her chores without anyone asking. They’re there for her, like when her oldest brother Nick was away on a band trip and left halfway through to go lay with Olivia in her hospital room, or that time Makayla passed up getting the doll she’d saved for, so she’d have enough money for Olivia to pick out something, too.

It’s probably no big surprise that they have to make mom take a break. Self-care for Kelly is caring for them. Self-care for Kelly is doctor appointments, sanitizing high and low, and consciously choosing to only focus on all the good parts in life.

In Kelly’s home, the kitchen is crucial. The kitchen is their home base. They depend on it for health. They depend on it for happiness. It’s where they get to show each other love through quality time. Just last week, on a school night, Kelly let the kids stay up late to bake cookies together in the kitchen. The place was a complete mess, but she was reminded that she was succeeding as a mother. In that moment, everyone was happy. There was nowhere they needed to be, but right there with each other – no appointments, no phone calls, no infusions, no hospitals. Baking gives Kelly a chance to show her kids that she will do everything she can to pause and make time for them. So, even on the days when everything is a little chaotic, or more accurately a lot chaotic, giving them a space to meet back at, a place for them to come together, a place where they can look around and remember that these appliances are simply there as a reflection of them, and the endless gratitude they always have for one another. The value in that is priceless, with a lifetime guarantee.
