Be Strong teamed up with LG to honor, thank and give back to six families who truly personify the six sustainable happiness skills. Through their generosity, gratitude, passion for human connection, mindfulness, positive outlook and lives of purpose, these families bring value and love to everyone they encounter. Together, with LG, we are honored to recognize and gift them each with an entire home appliance upgrade. More than mere machines, these new appliances will help to simplify daily life and sustain and increase the ways in which these selfless families serve their local communities.
Chevella
Mom
“Everyone is my baby. Just call me momma bee.”
Human Connection (noun)
The social or emotional bond experienced between two or more people.
Chevella is known for having a really cool superpower. Maybe it’s more of a phenomenon, but either way, it’s something mighty powerful. She can hardly make it out of the supermarket without making friends and plans with whoever she runs into. Her energy is magnetic and absolutely undeniable. Chevella is everyone’s best friend, or as she puts it, “Everyone is my baby. Just call me momma bee.”
“Bee nice” is Chevella’s family motto. Not only is it what they say, it’s how they live. It is not uncommon for the entire family to be dressed up as bumble bees, out in the community, inviting everyone to their monthly Bee Nice block party. Chevella can’t help but constantly dream and plan out the evolution of its future. She wants to create a place her city can depend on – a space everyone can go and feel safe, understood. She draws from her own experiences. You see, Chevella is the momma to two perfect kiddos, both with different special needs. She understands what it’s like to be discriminated against, the added challenges of things like potty training, haircuts, and quick trips to the grocery that turn into visiting six different locations to find the one and only thing your child will eat. She is a special kind of person who desires to take what she’s learned in life and joyfully share that knowledge with others. Chevella has a heart with vacancy for anyone with a need… and space on her wall where each day, she tapes notes filled with love and encouragement.
Chevella’s dream of opening a community center is something we know everyone in her life will continue to encourage. At a time when opportunities for human connection are so important, it becomes even easier to witness how this is her life’s calling. She makes it happen. She makes people feel seen during this pandemic, when that is not an easy task. While we are required to maintain distance, she has built and nurtured new relationships. No one is more deserving of such a show of gratitude. Taking care of Chevella’s family so that she can take care of so many others is a privilege. Chevella, go fill that new fridge with all of Angel and Josiah’s favorite snacks, and then take some time to relax before you get back to your mission to “feed the whole world!”
