From Margate, meet Florida Student State Rep Eleanor, Be Strong’s June 2019 Student of the Month!
“I choose to Be Strong by lighting people’s day with a smile, helping others wherever I go, and by being the best citizen and leader even when there’s no one watching.”
Occasionally, you will be fortunate enough to encounter someone who drives change, even without saying much. June’s Student of the Month, Eleanor, is that someone.
Her acceptance and love know no boundary. She helps anyone and respects everyone. Eleanor embodies kindness at her small elementary school in South Florida. Sitting near her, you’ll never find yourself without the supplies you may need for any assignment – or the support you may need for even the worst of days.
Eleanor also realizes that our differences make us unique, special and that much stronger. She makes it a priority to share that outlook, as well, championing her friends in the school’s DIFFabilities community, and helping other students to understand that we’re all perfectly different.
We recently had the opportunity to drop in and surprise Eleanor and celebrate the difference she’s making… on her birthday, no less!
Wearing a huge smile and a lovely tiara, Eleanor chose to pass out gifts to every one of the two dozen students in the room. She chose to celebrate everyone else, instead of letting the day be about herself. Eleanor made sure not to miss a single opportunity to make or strengthen personal connections with a brief moment of welcoming eye contact and a heartfelt smile, as she handed everyone, one by one, a present.
In just a few short days, school will be out for the year and Eleanor will be graduating from the K-5 campus. Discussions have already begun about how she will impact school climate next year, at her new middle school, through random acts of kindness, and starting her own We Dine Together initiative.
Be Strong is proud to recognize Eleanor as our June 2019 Student of the Month!
