Students from several Long Island high schools will travel to Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall today to join thousands of their peers at a Be Strong anti-bullying gathering, and more than 200,000 other students nationwide have registered to watch the event simulcast online.
Be Strong is a nonprofit that aims to prevent bullying by training students in ways to bring about change in their schools by recognizing and helping others who may need a hand.
“One simple act of kindness could change their outlook on life,” says Kashmiraa Pandit, 15, a sophomore at Valley Stream North High School and one of 46 students from her school who will be attending the Manhattan event. Pandit has been chosen as a Be Strong ambassador, which means she will lead the development of the student-led program at her school, says Valley Stream North teacher Susan Filoteo.
People who wish to watch the program can tune in beginning at 10:30 a.m.; the event starts at 11 a.m. at bestrong.global/event/be-strong-new-york-city-10-18-2018-11am-et-live-event/ (replays available on-demand).
