Your State Representatives

State Representative Sydney O.

Sydney - Kansas Student Rep Profile Image“I hope to see a change in my community by decreasing bullying, by making people aware of their negative actions, and allowing people the opportunity to understand their true value by showing them they do not deserve the harsh treatment of others.”

-Sydney

Why Sydney was Nominated:

Sydney is who one would call your well-rounded student. She is academically strong, participates in sports, and well-liked by her peers and teachers. I have observed her to be inclusive and to be genuinely kind without fan fare or acknowledgment. While she could easily be voted on to have a leadership role within the school, she chooses to work behind the scenes or to give others a chance to shine.

State Representative Abigail M.

Abigail M. Profile image“I am a strong believer in how the small things can really have an effect on others’ lives.”

-Abigail

Why Abigail M. was Nominated:

I am nominating Abigail as a Be Strong representative because she has already proven to be a uniting force in her school. She is a member of our Peer Helpers group, which assists freshman students with a smooth transition into high school as well as providing assistance to the student body in various efforts throughout the school year. She is also a member of Student Council and works diligently to create opportunities for student involvement. She is a reporter on the student news magazine and would be an excellent voice for the organization in spreading its mission to others. Finally, Abigail was very involved in helping me to organize our on-site teen pantry – Maslow’s Pantry – which provides food, clothing and personal hygiene products to our students in need and their families. She helped to design our logo and has spent numerous hours with me in keeping the pantry clean, organized, and welcoming. Abigail is a kindhearted, generous individual who puts others first and strives to be the change in her school.

State Representative Casey L.

Casey L. Profile image“Being kind can really make a huge difference, even if you don’t know it.”

-Casey

Why Casey L. was Nominated:

Casey is the epitome of his name – Loving. He involves himself in many organizations that strive to include and assist students to be a part of something. He is actively engaged in student government, serves as a member of the Kansas Association of Youth, is a student reporter for the high school news magazine and works diligently to give his peers a voice in the day to day experiences of school and extracurricular activities. Casey also competes in debate and has proven to be eloquent and skilled in defending and supporting many issues of national concern, including violence and bullying in the school setting. He has a creative side, participating in vocal music and drama and has held several leading roles in vocal performances and school plays. Casey can move among students of all types and groups with ease and his friendly demeanor makes him not only a good friend to others but also a person most students feel they can trust because of his compassionate and genuine nature.

State Representative Chelsea G.

Chelsea - Kansas Student Rep Profile Image“I want us to build a community that shows compassion and empathy to others.”

-Chelsea

Why Chelsea was Nominated:

Chelsea has a heart for helping others feel welcome. She approached me this summer with the idea of making sure every student at South High felt connected to our school. Chelsea took the initiative to communicate her idea with our school principal and to organize the club to begin this school year. I am honored to offer my support as the club sponsor and look forward to watching this program help students feel welcome and honored at South High.
