State Representative James B.

James B - MT Student Rep Profile Image

“I choose to Be Strong by talking to teachers and administration about the harassment and mistreatment in our school.”

-James

Why James B. was Nominated:

James is the Secretary of the Student Action Committee at his high school. This group works to connect student voice with educators and administrators to create positive change in the school culture. He has shown a tremendous amount of leadership and courage by making his school a more just and inclusive space by fostering a safe environment to promote youth-driven change. James has grown so much as a leader this school year through his commitment to making our campus a better place for its students and transforming the student culture through education, support, social action and advocacy work. It brings me so much joy to nominate James and reinforce all of the hard work that he has put in.

State Representative Kyler H.

James B - MT Student Rep Profile Image

“I want to organize a lunch once a week where students sit with their Crow Clan Family and eat lunch together so they know who they can go to for support and friends.”

– Kyler

Why Kyler H. was Nominated:

Kyler is a student in my class this year. The best way I can describe him is his heart is so full he glows. He is filled with empathy for his peers and stands up for others when needed. Kyler is brought to tears when he sees injustice and is the first to invite students into a game of basketball or tag when he sees them alone. His culture and family are on the forefront of his life and have taught him to be aware of his affect on others. Always a welcome smile and a friendly laugh greets his classmates and teachers. When a quirky student in our class never was chosen as a seat buddy Kyler noticed and asked to sit with him. Kyler feels what others need and tries to be there for them. He also has confidence in himself and expects a lot from others. When a student was bullying on the court he compared the behavior to the social studies unit we are on…king George was isolated and full of pride as a king and made bad decisions. He said this boy was making bad decisions and they needed to give him time to see he was being prideful. Kyler started a game on another court until the other boy came and asked to join them. With a huge smile he told me the boy had learned to be a better friend. Kyler’s kindness fills my heart. He is a special student.
