State Representative Tori G.

Tori - IN - Profile Pic

“I want to make sure that other kids feel accepted, valued, and part of the community.”

– Tori

Why Tori G. was Nominated:

Victoria (Tori) has faced bullying her entire school career, was moved to a new state, City and school the summer before her 5th grade year. She understands what it is like to be the “new kid”, and understands how difficult it is to navigate the waters when you are “different”. Tori has worked with me in providing leadership training for kids at our local Boys & Girls clubs and part of that training is in bullying prevention. She has expressed to me that this program is something that she would like to bring to McCutcheon to help others.

State Representative Rachel D.

Rachel - Indiana Student Rep Profile Image

“I want to make sure that everyone feels like they can be themselves.”

– Rachel

Why Rachel was Nominated:

Rachel is a student and 4-H member who loves to help lead and get everyone to participate. She recently connected with a girl who was having trouble connecting with others. Rachel reached out to her and made sure she was included. I think Rachel would be a great State Representative.

State Representative Madison P.

Madison - Indiana Student Rep Profile Image

“I choose to Be Strong in my school, my community, and the hearts of those around me by spreading kindness and being positive.”

– Madison

Why Madison was Nominated:

It is with great pleasure that I nominate Madison for State Representative for Be Strong. As the leader of a local non-profit organization, I have had the privilege of overseeing Madison in her volunteering position over the last two years. Since then, I have observed a very driven, intelligent, and courageous young woman pursue her dreams in a “sky is the limit” type of way. She is truly inspiring! Here at the Encore Center (Senior Center), Madison oversees and organizes the Cyber Seniors program. Cyber Seniors is a student led program designed to bridge the generational gap in communities by teaching senior citizens how to utilize all things technology (smart phones, iPads, laptops, etc.). The instructors are student volunteers from local high schools. Madison has recruited several students to volunteer for this program as well as maintain a very organized schedule. Our patrons absolutely love this program. Madison is also very active in other leadership capacities in our local community. She is very involved in the 4-H program and recently attended the State 4-H Junior Leader Conference. Madison has also participated in the Heifer Ranch International experience located in Perryville, Arkansas. Madison is always looking for ways to network through these experiences. Her ability to network has connected her to more advanced opportunities. And she’s just getting started!

State Representative Madison H.

Student Profile Image“I choose to Be Strong by overcoming the words that people say and motivating others to believe in themselves.”

– Madison

Why Madison H. was Nominated:

Madison and Tre embody what is means to be strong for themselves and for one another. When confronted with unexpected and unprompted bulling from strangers on the internet for simply posting a picture of themselves going to prom on social media, many people might have just removed the content and tried to ignore the negative attention. Instead, knowing that others would inevitably be encountering something similar, Madison and Tre made a stand. Madison, being the strong, confident young woman she is, proclaimed that she was comfortable in her own skin, and Tre, being the caring and mature young man that he is, proclaimed what it was he adored about Madison. They are incredible role models for all of us, and it is for this reason that I nominate both to become Be Strong Student State Representatives.

State Representative Olivia W.

I choose to Be Strong for those who cannot Be Strong for themselves and who need me to Be Strong for them.

“I choose to Be Strong by supporting everyone, my family, anyone in my life.”

– Olivia

Why Olivia W. was Nominated:

Olivia has been a great advocate for inclusion of special education students in our building.  While we work hard to eliminate bullying of any student in our building, especially our most vulnerable special education students, it is still important for student leaders to step up in this area.  Olivia has organized a Best Buddies chapter at TWHS, which is a group that pairs life skills students with a general education peer partner.  Best Buddies reduces bullying because the most susceptible students in the building have a built-in support system of peers and adults.  I am really proud of Olivia’s initiative in this area and the work she is doing in our building.  She is most deserving of the designation of Champion for Change at Tri-West HS.
