2017 is here! How many of you have made new year’s resolutions? Personally, I’m not a fan of resolutions, but rather I make commitments for the year and “check-in” on these commitments as the year progresses. Last year I made a commitment to have resolve. Don’t get me wrong, resolutions are a good beginning, but without resolve and conviction, they are just thoughts and hopes. Taking bold, positive action can make all the difference in the world!
For me, I wanted to make sure that I was doing something every single day to better my life as well as those who I would be connected with. In June, I had the wonderful opportunity to speak to my daughter’s High School graduation class of 300, where I shared with them three things that they could carry with them as they go through life.
- Embrace the Suck – Life has its ups and downs. To be successful, you must embrace both the good and the bad. They BOTH have something to teach us and it is part of the process.
- Generosity – It is not about giving material things to someone. Give ALL of yourself in what you do for yourself and for others.
- Get Back UP! – Lastly, when you fall seven times, you get back up eight times, always. Babe Ruth once said, “You just can’t beat the person who never gives up.”
For this new year, make commitments that inspire you and build your resolve and resilience throughout the year. Know that you will have good days and bad days, but if you look at the positive side of every situation, you will have a great year!
